For Petar Tsonkov, the connection with the Friendship Marathon in Pleven began even before his first participation in 2014. At that time, he maintained a running website and while writing articles, he came across interesting information about a group of runners who have been participating in the London Marathon since its beginning in 1981.
Judging by the smile that never leaves her face, Nia Yotova is in a constant state of runners high. It’s hard to believe that Nia, who has been part of the ASICS Frontrunner team for five years, started running quite late and almost as a joke.

The tenth anniversary edition of the marathon raised funds for a scholarship for a student at the Pleven Medical University.
On 19 May, the tenth anniversary edition of the Friendship Marathon took place in Pleven. More than 800 participants took part in the event, including runners from Algeria, Belarus, Bulgaria, Germany, Great Britain, India, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Sri Lanka, Ukraine and the United States.

As every year, the 8th Pleven Friendship Marathon (2022) had a charitable cause – “Run to Pleven in support of children with intellectual challenges”, initiative of the Bulgarian Association of People with Intellectual Disabilities – Pleven. The funds raised were used for the purchase of pottery wheels, tools for shaping and cutting, brushes for decoration, paints, clay, baking oven and other necessary materials for the construction of an art therapeutic area for working with clay by children with disabilities at the Center for Social rehabilitation and integration for children with disabilities (CSRICD) – Pleven.
22 May 2022, the eighth edition of the Friendship Marathon took place in Pleven. The event attracted a total of 582 participants from all age groups — from toddlers in prams to an 85-year-old marathon runner who represented a total of ten countries — the UK, Spain, India, Canada, Romania, the USA, Syria, Ukraine and Jamaica and, of course, Bulgaria. They all participated in the event united by a common cause under the motto ‘We run in Pleven in support of children with intellectual difficulties’.
