The event raises funds for a medical student scholarship
On May 18, 2025 (Sunday), one of the most attractive running competitions in the country will be held – Pleven Friendship Marathon. The event offers a wide selection of disciplines – from 10 to 42.2 km runs, relay, Fun Run Kids children’s race, 3 km free city cross and outdoor games Park+.
This year’s Pleven Friendship Marathon is again held under the patronage of the Mayor of Pleven Dr. Valentin Hristov.
“For Pleven, the Marathon is not just a tradition, but an eagerly awaited celebration of sports and friendship. A competition that provokes everyone in the family and community to play sports, united around a common charitable cause.” shares Dr. Hristov and adds “I expect this year’s edition of the Marathon to once again gather hundreds of fans of the active lifestyle to become part of one of the most significant sporting events in the country.”
Traditionally, the eleventh Pleven Friendship Marathon will once again support a charitable cause. This year it aims to provide a scholarship for a medical student, part of the “Get Ready to Succeed” campaign of the “BCause” Foundation. The financial aid is intended for a student with excellent grades, who lost one or both parents or grew up in a specialized institution.
“With the eleventh edition of the Friendship Marathon Pleven 2025, we will once again support the cause of education. With the funds raised, we will provide a scholarship for a medical student – a young person who has chosen this humane profession and the vocation to help.”, says Stanimira Georgieva from “Eyes Open”, co-organizer of the event.
The charitable cause can be supported by anyone wishing to make a donation through the Platform and the marathon website.
In addition to helping noble causes, the Pleven Friendship Marathon is expected to encourage more people to turn to an active lifestyle for another year. The event is held in a format that attracts both experienced marathon runners and novice runners aged 2 to 85. Participants have a wide choice of six main disciplines – classic marathon (42.2 km), half marathon (21.1 km), relay (2 x 10.5 km), the popular 10 km, as well as the Fun Run Kids children’s race and the 3-kilometer Decathlon mass cross.
The Pleven Friendship Marathon is not only a race for established athletes, but also an event that aims to provoke everyone in the family and community to play sports. That is why during the event, visitors can join group classes in 10 popular and less well-known sports without age or physical fitness restrictions within the framework of the Park+ initiative.
Registration for the event has already started on the marathon website. Children, joining the Fun Run Kids, all Decathlon 3-kilometer mass cross participants, people with disabilities and veterans over 60 years of age can register for free.
The 11-th Pleven Friendship Marathon is organized by leading foundations and social enterprises in Bulgaria, whose main mission is to support people in disadvantaged situations and with different abilities: “Eyes Open“, “To Run” Sports Club, “Maria’s World” Foundation , Social Future – “Jamba” Foundation, National Alliance for Social Responsibility, in partnership with the Municipality of Pleven, Center for Working with Children – Pleven, “Elite” Running Sports Club from Romania, Bulgarian Association for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, “BCause” Foundation, “Autism Today“, and with the support of many companies for whom corporate and social responsibility, contribution to building a fair social environment and a sustainable future are at the core of their business.
